When Nikka Whisky launched From the Barrel in 1985, few could have predicted it would become one of the most iconic expressions in Japanese whisky. Master blender Shigeo Sato’s vision for a rich, full-bodied whisky, housed in that distinctive little square bottle and refined by Taku Satoh’s now-legendary minimalist design, has stood the test of four decades. This new release is a celebration of exactly that. Nikka From the Barrel Extra Marriage honours the original while pushing it a step further. Grain whisky from Nikka’s celebrated Coffey stills is married with malts drawn primarily from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, just as before — but this time the marriage period is twice as long, allowing the component whiskies to knit together with even greater depth and cohesion. Presented in the classic bottle with a sleek new silver label bearing the Extra Marriage stamp, it’s a fitting tribute to forty years of a true modern legend.
